Volunteer
Thank you for considering volunteering for Afasic. There are 6 main areas where there are volunteering opportunities.
Transition to secondary school
Are you looking to gain experience in Speech and Language Therapy or working with children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN)? Afasic is seeking dedicated volunteers to support our Summer Transition Courses, both online and in-person across the country.
Volunteering with us is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills, work alongside experienced professionals, and make a real difference in helping children gain confidence for their transition to secondary school.
We require a minimum commitment of 3 consecutive days during the summer holidays. As a valued volunteer, you will receive safeguarding training, and we can support you in obtaining a DBS check.
From March 2026 you can complete an application form here Volunteer Application – 2026 School Transition Courses and once course locations are confirmed, and if your application is successful, we will contact you with further details in April/May.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Michele at TCC@afasic.org.uk.

Publicity/media
Parents or young people interested in telling their story for newspapers, magazines, TV, radio or the Afasic website/newsletter should in the first instance contact our Social Media Officer Mark Darlow using the contact Button below for more information.
There are very few volunteering opportunities for working directly with children and young people. When these opportunities do arise a notice will be posted on this website.
