After a quick visit to Afasic HQ I went to visit Afasic CEO Linda and her daughter Afasic ambassador Robyn. They had an amazing day planned and it was not disappointing. We got on the train at Worthing and headed off to Brighton.

We took a walk along the beach and onto the pier for a great view of the seaside town. I had a massive ice cream with a flake, yum.

We then paid a visit to the Brighton Pavilion and we looked around the garden and I met a new friend, although I’m jealous of his tail!

It was also a day of working and giving lots of awareness to DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) it was international DLD day. We spent time in a library helping on an information desk talking about DLD. I met lots of people including Afasic trustee Carol Everingham and another Afasic Ambassador Sophie Franks. we did a great job highlighting the fact that DLD is a very common condition affecting 7.5% of children – that’s an average of 2 or 3 in every classroom. But it is little known and poorly understood. The reasons for this are unclear but we know that DLD is often confused with other conditions. People tend to assume that language difficulties will be obvious, but they are often quite subtle and hard to recognise without experience or training. Furthermore, children with DLD are often very good at ‘masking’ their difficulties.

I met Donald the purple DLD elephant and we had a good chat about lots of things.  The highlight of the day was when they turned on the lights which were purple and yellow the colours of  RADLD

What an end to a perfect day Thank you Afasic
