Primary to Secondary School Transition Courses – Summer 2026

We are delighted that, once again, the Summer School Transition Courses were a great success in 2026.  Ten courses took place throughout the country in different locations, including Whitby, Newham, Manchester, Enfield, Brent, Tower Hamlets, Warrington, Barking and Dagenham and, for the first time, in Cornwall.

The aim of these courses is to give children who have speech, language, and communication challenges, extra help when dealing with the often-difficult move from Primary School to Secondary School.

The National Online School Transition Course, that was successfully piloted by Afasic last year, once again helped children who did not have access to a face-to-face course locally. This was delivered by Grace, Lauren and Anshoo, qualified Speech and Language therapists with help from Afasic volunteers

Most face-to-face courses took place in schools, delivered by professional therapists and teaching staff and aided by our volunteers. 98 children benefited from attending a course and many parents and carers, who chose to attend a Parent Workshop, also gained invaluable advice on how they can help their child get the support they may need in their new school.

  • Independence skills
  • Reading a timetable
  • Packing a school bag
  • Problem solving
  • Asking for help
  • Social interaction and making friends
  • Managing a new environment
