Afasic young person award result
Twenty-one year old Nazar Rubai is the latest winner of the Sir Sigmund Sternberg Award. Nazar attended The Language Unit at Whitefields School in Walthamstow, London, later attending a mainstream secondary. He moved to Northern Ireland five years ago, where he comments 'I first encountered sectarianism'. 'Sometimes I have problems getting my message across and this can be very difficult for me' comments Nazar, 'so with this award I will be able to pay for a befriender who can help me with my communication skills, independence and personal and social skills. The award will also help me to go to Strasbourg to visit the European Parliament since I cannot use public transport'. With the award, Nazar is also planning to buy a digital video camera to make a video diary "This is what life is like" in order to help integrate young people with special needs. We congratulate Nazar on gaining the 2006 Sir Sigmund Sternberg award. North East London Youth Project
The Young People's Message Board is aimed solely at the 14-25 year old age group. It is a public message board with several categories for different subjects and areas of chat. It is fun and easy to use for posting messages and creating online polls so other members can give their opinions about various things. New members are welcome.
Damian Quinn who is young person with SLI and has participated in Afasic events has his own website with interesting information and views and SLI and dysphasia.
